After a long winter, I look forward to getting outside to plant my containers full of festive colors.

I love pansies because they are cold-tolerant and I don’t have to wait until the last frost to plant them.

By late March, I try to get some pots planted with my favorite colors. It changes the mood in the back yard. It changes my mood too.

Until I see this and then…let’s just say…my mood takes a turn.

Those rabbits feasted on all of the blooms in this pot.

I then walked over to my vegetable garden.
Not the sugar snap peas….please not the sugar snap peas.

So I have declared war on the rabbits. My husband tightened the fence around our Square Foot Garden and they should stay out of it now.

Just in time, because the ‘purple’ green beans sprouted through yesterday.

And hell hath no fury like a woman whose veggies have been munched on!

Have those furry little beasts done any damage in your garden? What are you doing about it? Do you have any suggestions on how to keep the varmints out of my pots?? Please let us know in the comments.

Ugg!! I feel your pain. We have a SKUNK who has decided that our yard looks like the neighborhood all-you-can-dig buffet. Not sure what to do about him, but I hate going out to the garden and being surprised by a SKUNK!! 😛 So sorry about your flowers and garden plants! 🙁

I’m with you! My husband checked our newly planted tomato plants and said the bunnies had gotten almost half. Time for some desperate measures!

Your pansies look so pretty. I had trouble with rabbits last year too and I’m guessing I will again. they only ate my green beans and sunflowers. (go figure)

Hi there, I’m on Jami’s Tuesday Garden Tour. Naughty rabbits! I can’t wait to see what those purple green beans look like. Must be purty!

Try planting marigolds around your plants, animals hate the smell of them. HTH….

I do know the feeling, though it’s caused by deer here and not wild rabbits. For a large area, I think you’ve got the idea with fencing.

I’ve heard people say that the sprays work well for deer around here- maybe they would work for rabbits and just doing your pots with them wouldn’t be so cost or time prohibitive. Have you tried these before?

Good luck, and thanks for participating in the Garden Party!

Oh!!! I am so sorry! That is so frustrating!!! We have deer also, that like to reach over the top of the garden fence and munch. As far as your pots go, they might just have to be placed up high somewhere, out of reach!!! Good luck to you!

Ooooh, those wascally wabbits! We do the same, batten down the hatches with some netting. How can something so cute be so destructive?? Hopefully your new measures will foil them:)

Boo on the rabbits. Yeah for a tighter fence. Hooray for pansies! They brighten my mood too!

I think that you are looking at the problem the wrong way; you want the rabbits in your pots!

Might I suggest-a pellet rifle, a pot, a little water, some carrots, celery, potatoes, and various spices.

Sounds silly to say, but our rabbits, deer and turkey have left our garden alone this year. It is the BIRDS that are getting at my garden!! We are in the process of getting screen over top and on the sides.

I went to a FREE EcoFriendly gardening “Do-It-Herself” workshop at Home Depot last night. It was amazing!! But I learned that Rabbits, Deer, and Bees do not like the smell of marigolds and by adding a row of them into your garden bed they stay away!! Great tip since I love enjoying my garden but HATE that we have an ugly chicken coop fence around it! I am hoping to give this a try this year and see how well it works.

I have to admit, I don’t have any problems with rodents, deer, etc. getting into my gardens. I have ten raised beds and no pests have bothered them. I have to offer a great big thanks to my four dogs who do a splendid job of patrolling the garden premises. It’s a pretty no nonsense approach to the furry pest elimination!
