In the month of October, my challenge will be to find $1000.  Mondays thru Saturdays in October, I will have ideas to help you find $1000 too. On Sundays, we’ll meet here to catch our breath, and let everyone know how we’re finding our $1000.

Find a Seasonal Part-Time Retail Job

According to CNBC.com, retailers will be hiring seasonal part-time workers for the upcoming holiday season. Wal-Mart plans to hire 55,000 seasonal workers and Kohl’s is planning on hiring 50,000 workers in its stores and distribution centers. Other retailers will also be hiring, but maybe not to that scale. (Read the full article here.)

I worked in retail for 13 years and there’s nothing quite like working in retail during the holidays. It is the busiest time of year for retailers, so it’s doubtful that you’ll be bored.

Your best bet is to call around to your local retail stores to find out when they will be hiring for the holidays, what jobs will be available, what shifts are available, and what compensation is offered.  Consider calling Target, JC Penney, Macys, Sears, K-Mart, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Kohl’s or any other retailer that might be local for you. Be prepared to work evenings and weekends, but it’s just during the upcoming holidays and remember we want to find $1000 in 31 days.

Would you consider finding a seasonal part-time retail job to find your $1000? Or have you ever worked a seasonal part-time retail job? What was your experience?  Let us know in the comments.

I’ve worked a LOT of retail jobs, some seasonal and all part-time. In fact, last May I quit a retail job that was wearing me out too much, because I needed the time and energy to focus on my training and business as a life coach. I’m not sure I can go back for more retail work! But, I do think of it often and wonder if I should do just a seasonal job again this fall. Hmmm….I need to pay off the loan I took out for my training and would love to do it sooner than the three years my payments allow.
