Winters in central PA are never consistent.

When the northeast gets pounded with snow, we either get walloped or we miss the excitement completely. Last year, we barely had any snow, but in 2010 our street looked like this:

Snowpocalypse 2010

My kids LOVE to play in the snow, but I really hate to spend a lot of money on snow gear, because we just never know what kind of winter weather we’ll get here in the center of the state. This year, my older daughter outgrew last year’s snow boots and my younger daughter outgrew her snow pants and there’s snow in our upcoming weekend forecast.

So instead of heading to a retail store, I hit my favorite thrift store (on a Wednesday for their 50% off sale) to see if I would have any luck.

Luck is definitely what I found! Brand new, size 3, girls snow boots and gently used black overall snow pants in size 6. That’s not just luck, that’s hitting the jackpot! With the 50% off sale, both items were each $2.50.

Whew! A snow crisis has be averted.

Awesome find! My son had a chorus concert a few days ago and I needed a white button down. I headed to the thrift store with my fingers crossed and found a perfect shirt for him for $2,99. I also found a beautiful DKNY camel 3/4 length wool coat. It looked brand new, except for some grease spots on the bottom front of the coat and this huge stain on the back right shoulder (which didn’t look like grease). I can easily take grease out with just some soap and elbow grease..and wasn’t sure about the back. But the coat was in such great shape otherwise. I thought I’d ask for a bigger discount. It was $9.99. I asked to get half off and that if I couldn’t wash out the stains, it was $5 I donated to Goodwill. The manager had said that they missed those stains and it shouldn’t have even been out. But sold it to me. The stains came out so easily and I have an almost brand new, gorgeous, camel wool coat. I’ve actually wanted one like it for a long time. I ♥ thrift stores!!!!

Great find with the DKNY coat (and of course your son’s shirt), but that coat…what a gem. I love thrift stores too! Thanks for stopping by and commenting.
