No buttermilk for that recipe you’ve been wanting to try?
No worries. It’s easy to make a substitute without having to purchase a quart, which is the only size I can find in my area. A quart is fine if you’ll use it up, but when a recipe calls for a smaller amount, it’s quite possible the rest will go to waste.
This quick kitchen trick will solve that problem for you.
How to Make Buttermilk
For every cup of buttermilk that you need, combine 1 cup of milk with either 1 tablespoon of lemon juice OR 1 tablespoon of white vinegar. Stir together and allow to sit for 10 minutes.
That’s it!
