My Favorite Coffee Mug

I drink coffee.

I like coffee.

And after almost 5 years, my current coffee maker is not working very well. I think it’s time for a new one. My current machine is one of those single serve coffee makers where you need to use pre-packaged, plastic, individual sized cups.

When I bought the machine I didn’t do the math. The cups can be expensive versus buying coffee in bulk. I used coupons and bought the cups on sale, but the price still doesn’t compare to buying the same brand of coffee in bulk.

I also did not realize that the plastic cups are not recyclable. After I bought the machine, I actually called the company to inquire about the plastic when I realized it was not the form of plastic that I can recycle.  Their issue was finding a plastic that met guidelines for consumption, the heat of brewing, and was recyclable.

The company suggested their reusable cup and I have used it ever since, but some coffee brands do not work well with single use machines. The grounds are too course and the coffee drips at a snails pace and doesn’t brew completely.

Recently, I bought a french press on Amazon and while I like the taste of the coffee, my french press is only a 12 oz size and that is just not enough coffee for me in the mornings.

So I’m in the market for a new coffee machine. I don’t need a large machine, because I am the only coffee drinker in the house, but I want my new machine to make me an awesome cup of coffee in the morning. I also don’t want to spend an arm and a leg, but I want a quality machine that will last for years.

I need your help, I need your recommendations. What is your coffee machine that makes an excellent cup of coffee?

Personally, I like Cooks brand coffee makers. They last for a long time, and make a smooth cup. The one I have is a combo coffee and espresso maker, and its been going strong for almost five years. I’ve always been hesitant about the single cup coffee systems because I figured buying bulk is generally cheaper. At least you found a good solution to the cup issue!

Oh, a combo maker would be nice too! Thanks for the recommendation. I’ll look into the Cooks brand.

I have a Hamilton Beach coffee pot. It is a duel pot. Single cup maker on one side and the 12 cup pot on the other side. It works great for the hubs and me. It uses regular coffee. No special cups. 🙂

Are you still looking? I did tons of research when my last coffee pot died. Since I don’t like the taste of the second cup in glass carafes, I focused on coffee pots with thermal carafes. Finally settled on a Technovorm. Got it online with coupons so the price wasn’t too bad – but more than the typical ones. And every single cup is excellent – first cup to last. And consistent coffee from the first time that I bought it about 4 years ago to now. It seems built to last. I love it.

I am still looking for a coffee maker. I have not bought a new one yet. I am using the single serve machine until it dies and I’m not sure what I want yet. I’ve not heard of Technovorm–I’ll look it up. Thanks!

Hey Kristia! You should try Cuisinart or Ninja… Both are great brands. Infact i’ve been using them for over a year.
