This past weekend, my daughter hosted her very first sleepover for her ninth birthday.
Yep, my husband and I entertained 6 girls and we lived to tell about it.
Besides falling asleep at 11:30 PM and waking up at 6:30 AM, the sleepover was a success. The 6:30 AM wake up was on Saturday morning NOT Sunday morning where we all gained an hour.
The girls had no trouble waking up at 6:30, however I had 3 cups of coffee by 9 AM.
Anyway, one of the activities that my daughter wanted to do was make caramel apples. Easy, right? Of course. We made them last year and they were delicious.
Right before the party, I melted the caramel in my slow cooker. I used a slow cooker liner this year, because cleaning caramel out of a crock pot is NOT fun!
The girls dipped the caramel apples in mini M&M’s and mini chocolate chips. We got started late, so I just left the apples on a cooling rack over night to set.
And this is where my mistake happened.
When I walked into the kitchen on Saturday morning to brew my coffee, I discovered the caramel and candy had melted completely to the bottom.
The girls didn’t mind and asked if they could eat the caramel apples anyway for breakfast.
Apples sitting on a pile of caramel and candy for breakfast…that’s what sleepovers are all about!
I posted my fail on Facebook and I received a lot of advice for next time.
There will be a next time because caramel apples are totally worth it.
