How I Saved this Week:
- I stumbled on this markdown at Giant on a whole turkey. We’re a little tired of turkey, but it was marked to .63/lb. I couldn’t pass it up, since I paid .79/lb before Thanksgiving. I roasted the turkey as soon as I got home from the store. We’ll eat some for sandwiches this week, but I’ll put the rest in the freezer along with the stock that I made from the bones.
- Did you know you can freeze flour? I bought two bags for $1.49 of unbleached flour. I’ll store in the freezer until I need it. Every year at this time, I stock up enough to last me until next year.
This Week’s Dinners:
Every week, I share what we ate for the week on our budget. Our current monthly budget for my family of 4 is $500.
Sunday: We went to our favorite local sub shop with some extended family.
Monday: Crock pot Pesto Chicken Thighs, rice, steamed veggies.
Tuesday: We had leftover chicken with pesto sauce from Monday night so I put on top of thin spaghetti.
Wednesday: Turkey Tacos, fruit. That’s with ground turkey, not Thanksgiving turkey.
Thursday: Turkey Noodle Soup using the leftover turkey from a few weeks ago.
Friday: Burrito Bowls with a Costco rotisserie chicken. I stopped at Costco BEFORE I found the turkey deal above or I wouldn’t have bought the chicken.
Saturday: Leftovers. We’re swimming in leftovers.
This Week’s Breakfasts, Lunches, & Snacks:
This week’s breakfasts included eggs & toast and oatmeal. Lunches and snacks included ham & cheese sandwiches, leftover pasta, apples, oranges, pretzels, cheese sticks, yogurt sticks, and popcorn.
Unitl I read something you or Tiffany or Lydia posted this last week about freezing flour I didn’t know you could do that. My local store has had their brand on sale for $1 a bag off and on for the past few months I have 6 now and part are in the freezer. Thanks for sharing this tip. The amount I have between the pantry and the freezer will probably last me all next year! I also found sugar for $.49 a bag a couple weeks ago in a Kroger mega deal it was $.99 if you bought 5 and they had a digital coupon to save $.50 up to five times! Talk about a sugar deal!!
$1 a bag is a great deal! I bought two for $1.49 each and I thought that was a great deal. congrats on the sugar deal, I haven’t seen that price.
