Hawaii

Over the weekend, my oldest daughter had a swim meet. These meets are long and my youngest daughter, who does not swim competitively, ususually handles it fairly well. It can get a bit boring for her considering her sister swims less than 5 minutes during the 4 hour meet.

That’s not to say that she doesn’t whine and complain. I have even whined and complained (in my head) during the 4 hours so I’m not above bribing and rewarding her for good behavior.

At this particular meet there was a smoothie vendor whose stand looked very tropical. There was a palm tree, leis hanging from the sign, a hoola skirt around the stand, and the smoothies came with a tiny drink umbrella.

I gave my daughter money for a smoothie for cooperating during the meet and when she walked up to the stand the first thing she said to the guy was “we’re going to Hawaii when we’re debt free”.

I’m pretty sure my face turned bright red, but the guy behind the stand just laughed and replied that he and his wife were going to Australia when they pay off their bills. It was like he spoke our language.

Our Debt Freedom Plan includes a family trip to Walt Disney World after we pay off our non-mortgage debt and a trip to Hawaii to celebrate paying off our mortgages.

To me the trip to Hawaii is too far away to give it much thought, but I don’t think my girls will ever let us forget about it.

Some day, we’re going to sip smoothies (with drink umbrellas) from a Hawaiian beach…some day.

Sounds good to me. I’ve just about convinced my wife that we need to go to Hawaii someday. Probably not any time soon, but someday.

You’re going to love it! The extra looooooong flight will be a blip on the radar when you get there too. We had the pleasure of going last summer. I probably would have never gone if my uncle hadn’t chosen that spot to get married. I would love to go back – when the kiddos get a lot older. That long flight was a lot for little biddies.

Great motivation to dump debt – seriously!!!

I’m fortunate to go to Hawaii twice a year with my friends Mike and Ellen. They own a home in Oahu right on the water. The first time I went there I said to everyone I know to save their pennies and visit Hawaii because the beauty is indescribable. It’s a great goal and I know it will be even more enjoyable knowing you didn’t have to incur debt to go and that you’re not coming home to any debt. Aloha!
