How I Saved This Week on Groceries:

1. I bought Marked Down Meat.
Do you buy marked down meat? I discovered this money saving gem about 10 years ago and I buy almost all of our meat at marked down prices. Stores will mark down meat by as much as 75% off when it gets close to the sell-by date. Because of the savings, I always swing by the meat department to check the mark downs, even if I’m just stopping by for milk or bread. This week I bought over 16 pounds of chicken and breakfast sausage for just $17.20.

2. I discovered a new-to-me Grocery App.
About two weeks ago, I discovered the ibotta app. Ibotta works in over 100 retail chains, restaurants, movie theaters, convenience stores, home improvement centers, pet stores, and pharmacies nationwide.  You unlock cash back rewards on products by completing simple tasks, such as watching a short video. I play the videos while I’m shopping. I’m finding many cash back rewards on basic products, such as eggs, milk, produce, cereal, ice cream, bacon, bread, etc. The cash you receive can be transferred to your Paypal account or you can save up to convert to gift cards.

I have made over $9 in the two weeks. Use my referral code to learn more about ibotta.

This Week’s Dinners:

Saturday: We camped in Avalon, NJ over the long Labor Day weekend.  We grilled burgers. I made a big pasta salad and a fresh fruit salad at home to take along on the trip.

Sunday: Grilled sausages, pasta salad, and fresh fruit.

Monday: We got home from our camping trip in the late afternoon, so got take out from our favorite deli.

Tuesday: Grilled chicken tenders, corn on the cob, local cantaloupe.

Wednesday: Easy Lasagna, steamed broccoli, grapes.

Thursday: Tacos, grapes. I had the taco meat ready to go in the freezer, so dinner was easy.

Friday: I made my monthly trip to Costco. I always buy a rotisserie chicken for dinner that night.

This Week’s Breakfasts, Lunches, & Snacks:

Breakfasts includes eggs, toast, sausages, cereal with bananas, and yogurt & fresh fruit. Lunches and snacks included sandwiches, leftover lasagna, oranges, grapes, popcorn, yogurt sticks, and cheese sticks.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Ibottoa!! Have you used Snap or Saving Star and Checkout 51? They work the same only you don’t have to watch videos for things! Thank you for always sharing. Seeing other people “struggle” and make it work always keeps me positive that I can do it too!! I unfortunately don’t get the marked down meat. I work full time so I usually miss this when they put it out however the couple times I have caught it the meat looked horrible! I wont buy it then.

Someone on Facebook mentioned that the marked down meat that they see looks horrible too and I have not had the problem. I will only buy if it looks fresh.

Yeah, the videos on ibotta are a little annoying, but I put my phone on mute and play the videos as I shop. I have Snap, Checkout 51 and Saving Star on my phone, but I think ibotta offers more rebates than any of the others. I earned $9 in just two weeks on products that are always on my list.

Thanks, Rebecca, for reading and commenting.
