Day 23 of 31 Days to Slash your Grocery Spending: Shop at a Bread Outlet

My family loves bread. And good or bad, we eat A LOT of it every day, sometimes multiple times a day.

I’ve found the best prices on bread at a local bread outlet. They regularly stock English Muffins, sandwich thins, flat bread, kaiser rolls, hamburger rolls, hotdog rolls, tortillas, baked goods, snack foods, and more at prices of up to 50% off or more of the grocery store price.

The one caveat about buying bread at an outlet store is that you need to check the expiration date. I have found the expiration date on the bread is usually within a few days, but that doesn’t bother me one bit. I take the bread home and immediately put it in our freezer. I have never had a problem with the bread, except that I eat way too much of it.

When I need the bread, I either let it sit on the counter for a few minutes or I wrap it in a cloth napkin and microwave for a few seconds. The bread/rolls shouldn’t dry out if you wrap in a cloth napkin.

Don’t assume there isn’t a bread outlet near you! The outlet I go to doesn’t advertise and someone told me about the store. I didn’t know anything about it and I feel like I hit the lottery every time I leave.

Here are some recent outlet finds:

Why is it that bread without High Fructose Corn Syrup is so expensive? The best sale price I’ve seen at the grocery store is about $2.99, so the price is pretty good at the outlet store!

This cinnamon bread is my guilty pleasure in the morning.

The best price I’ve seen on English Muffins at the grocery store is Buy 1, Get 2 Free and that doesn’t happen often and it doesn’t beat the outlet store.

These bagels were on sale at the grocery store this week for Buy 1, Get 1 Free. The outlet price is still a better price.
