How We Saved in February 2017

March 3, By Kristia 1 Comment

Can’t believe February is now a memory! It was an odd month in PA, and the most mild February on record.  Although we certainly enjoyed the spring like days and I won’t mind the heating bill.

Hopefully, you had a great month.

How We Saved in February

1) When was the last time you comparison shopped for insurance?

A cold call from a local family owned insurance business in February resulted in us saving $200 a year with our homeowners insurance and $600 a year with our business’ building insurance for the same coverage. I usually dislike cold calls, but when the woman asked if her company could at least give us some quotes to compare, I realized it has been years since I’ve reviewed our insurance premiums. She also ran quotes for our auto insurance, which came up equal to what we are currently paying.

I was delighted by these savings, so do yourself a favor in March and review your homeowners, auto, and life insurance premiums. Start asking friends for recommendations and make a few phone calls to see if you can also reduce your premiums while still receiving the same coverage.

2) I switched facial cleanser from a department store brand to Noxzema…and my face lived to tell about it! 😉

I have used department store skincare and make-up products since my early 20’s when I landed my first big girl job out of college in the Cosmetics buying office of a department store.  That early salary did not support department store products, but I got sucked into it anyway. There is one brand in particular that I have really liked over the years, but I can no longer justify the price tag. I’ve been testing drugstore brands and Noxzema jumped out at me when I was shopping. I haven’t used it since high school and it smells just as I remember it.

I paid $4.00 for Noxzema, while that dept. store cleanser was over $30. My face can’t tell the difference…BAM!

3) Ebates

I discovered in February that one of the health care supplies companies that we purchase from participates with Ebates. I don’t know why I haven’t checked this out before, but I will receive 3% back from the purchase I made in February. Do you use Ebates? I use it to earn cash back on almost every purchase I buy online.

I added the app to my tool bar and now Ebates tells me through a pop-up if I can earn cash back from a particular site that I might be on. That’s how I found out about the health care supplies rebate. It’s FREE and super easy to use and worth a look if you shop online.
