Rather than create a long list of goals I’d like to accomplish for 2022, I’m going to focus on just one personal goal for this year. I will work on other things too, like exercising more, reading more, eating healthier, and blah, blah, blah!
But instead of stressing about a long list of ideas, I’m just going to focus on one goal and it’s a doozy.
2022 will be the year that I do a major declutter and purge of our entire home.
I know, I know, “declutter” is a popular New Year’s goal. Everyone is decluttering! But I’m about to be swallowed up by my family’s stuff–21+ years of marriage worth of stuff.
I’ve done the one-word thing over the years and outside of 2019, when we crushed my word, I have not done a great job keeping the word going for an entire year.
Will this year be any different? Gosh, I hope so! To help, I will try to post updates on my decluttering shenanigans.
My husband is totally on board and has already unloaded some unused stones on Facebook marketplace. These stones were leftover from a fireplace project in our living room and have been sitting in our garage for YEARS.
What took so long? I have no idea, but sometimes, that’s how we roll.
To give you a true sense of some of the clutter drama in my home here’s a sneak peek of our basement storage area. And I swear to you that I am not a candidate for the TV show, Hoarders! Please don’t judge! LOL
I present to you the storage room in our basement:
We refinished half of our basement at the end of 2020/beginning of 2021 into a really cute family area. Our original plan was to purge our junk to get ready for the renovation, but when our contractor had a cancelation, we jumped at the chance of not waiting 8 weeks to have our project started. We had days to get ready and literally threw everything in our basement into our storage area with the plan of cleaning it out throughout 2021. As you can see that did not happen.
Seriously though, it takes a lot of courage to show you how bad things have gotten in certain areas of our home. I’m hoping if I put it out in the universe on the world wide web, my decluttering projects will get completed.
My list of decluttering/purging projects for the year:
- kitchen
- garage
- foyer closet
- basement storage room
- full bathroom
- master bedroom
- shed
- laundry room
- filing cabinet
- living room
- dining room
- sunroom
- Christmas decor, gift wrap/bags, and other holiday stuff
This list is in no particular order and it’s pretty much every room in our home. I will work on some of it with my husband, such as the basement, garage, and shed, but the others I will most likely tackle myself.
It feels like an overwhelming project to declutter and purge my entire house, but I have 358 more days to get.it.done!
