31 Days to Find $1000 400X400

It’s day 6 of our 31 Days to Find $1000 challenge and it’s time for an update on the month so far.

If you are landing on this page for the first time, read my 31 Days to Find $1000 post where I explain why I’m looking for so much cash. That post will also recap all of the posts so far in the challenge.

Also, if you haven’t printed a tally sheet for this challenge, head over to the first post where you can print a google doc to hang on your refrigerator to track your progress and keep you motivated.

My tally so far is $250.

This was probably the easiest money to find and unfortunately the rest of the month won’t be so simple.

I cashed in on my visa’s rewards. I do not encourage anyone to use a credit card for points and we have recently adopted a cash philosophy. However, we still use our credit card for gas purchases and our monthly automatic internet bill. Prior to last spring when we discovered Financial Peace University, we made most of our purchases on a credit card and then paid the card off at the end of the month. So this $250 was accrued prior to our transition to cash, but I forgot all about the reward points until recently. It will take years for us to accrue that much again since we have moved to cash and our debit card for almost all of our purchases.

I have rounded up a few things to return, but I haven’t had time to get to the stores to return the items. I’ll add that amount when I actually make the return.

On Saturday, I started pulling stuff aside for our yard sale that will be later this month. We had a successful yard sale back in May, so I’m not finding too much to sell, but we’ll give it a go.

And that’s my month so far. How much cash have you found this week? Have you done any of this week’s challenges? Let us know all about it in the comments.

  • Day 1: Make October a “Needs” Only Month
  • Day 2: Have a Yard Sale
  • Day 3: Sell Your Big Stuff on Craigslist
  • Day 4: Find a Seasonal Part-Time Retail Job
  • Day 5: Return Unused Purchases

Check out my 31 Days to Find $1000 Pinterest board where I’ll be updating daily.
