In the month of October, my challenge will be to find $1000.  Mondays thru Saturdays in October, I will have ideas to help you find $1000 too. On Sundays, we’ll meet here to catch our breath, and let everyone know how we’re finding our $1000.

shop thrift or consignment stores

Wednesday is my favorite day of week and not because it’s HUMP day–it’s 50% off day at my favorite thrift store.

I have nothing against retail stores. I shop at them regularly, but I love to shop for clothing for myself and my girls at a local thrift store, especially ON WEDNESDAYS.

I’m trying not to bring unnecessary stuff in to our house, but I head to the thrift store at least one Wednesday a month to look for the needs of my family. I regularly find brand name clothing in like new condition at a fraction of the retail price.

As part of the 31 Days to Find $1000, October is a “Needs Only” month, so today’s challenge is to search for your needs, especially clothing and household items, at thrift stores.

Some of my favorite finds:

  • Calvin Klein jeans that FIT LIKE A GLOVE. Seriously, they are the most awesome jeans ever. They retail for $40-50, but I paid $2.50!
  • Keen shoes for my daughter that retail for $50, but I paid $2.50.
  • K Swiss Classic leather sneaker for my other daughter that retail for $40, but I paid $2.50.
  • A brand new girls’ winter coat for $3.

Do you shop at thrift stores? Do you have a problem buying used? Let us know in the comments.

I love love shopping at thrift stores too! I keep a running list of things my family will need in the coming seasons so I can remember to look for those specific things when I’m there. By planning ahead, I can usually find what I need in a couple of trips to the thrift store.

I have to say that I have shopped at a regular store only once this year. I bought my two sons (one in 6th grade and one a Freshman in HS) some brand name sneakers at Marshalls. We broke down as they needed shoes and I didn’t have time to go thrifting. But most of my families clothes over the last year..maybe even more, have been from thrifts. Great clothes, most new and almost new. I have no urge to go shopping regular retail at all. You find the greatest stuff for pennies on the dollar. And I gotta say that we all dress better now than we did when we shopped full retail! 🙂

    I ♥ Thrift Stores!!

I LOVE Thrift Stores too, Margaret!! I find beautiful clothes for myself and my kids. Shoes can be tricky to find and we usually have to go to a retail store also when my kids have a particular need. Thanks for stopping by and commenting!
